Tate Modern is the UK’s national gallery of international modern art, based in London.
As one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the world, Tate houses a vast collection of British art from 1900 to present, as well as collections of international modern and contemporary art. Every year, Tate receives over 5 million visitors.
Tate required a bespoke fit-out which would provide display storage for a varied range of merchandise, including books, garments and assorted souvenirs at their River Shop. The client’s clear vision for the space necessitated the use of a storage solution with a strong industrial, function-led aesthetic.
HI280 shelving provided Tate with a flexible, versatile storage solution which possessed the required look and feel for the fit-out.
Made from high-quality pre-galvanised steel and based on a smart construction technique which minimises the amount of components required, HI280 possesses a unique look which perfectly realised the vision Tate had for the refurbished River Shop space.
Due to the strength of the design, a reduced need for reinforcing elements allows HI280 to provide maximum storage for its depth.
The River Shop installation made use of HI280 in a number of configurations, incorporating a series of accessories, such as mesh cladding, back panels and garment storage rails.
Tate were delighted with the completed project, which delivered a space possessing the required aesthetic and functionality with minimal disruption to their activities.
Further to the significant storage space increase, several additional features were included in this installation to improve operations.
